Conditions required for application
You should apply for SCATS, if:
You are applying through UAC for UNSW Undergraduate program. Your application will not be processed if UNSW is not listed as one of your preferred courses by the date set in the next section. AND;
You are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident of Australia or the holder of an Australian permanent resident humanitarian visa. AND;
You have been previously terminated from UNSW OR;
You have been previously suspended or excluded from UNSW or another tertiary institution OR;
You have undertaken tertiary studies and your secondary and/or tertiary educational performance has been affected by long-term education disadvantage due to circumstances beyond your control.
If you have not undertaken any tertiary studies and you experienced disadvantage(s) during high school, please refer to our Educational Access Scheme (EAS)
Additional information for applicants who have been previously terminated from UNSW or previously suspended/excluded from another tertiary institution:
If you have been previously terminated from UNSW, please ensure that you entered your UNSW student ID in the appropriate field and review this information.
Applicants who have been suspended or excluded as a result of unsatisfactory academic performance from another University must also provide evidence of academic rehabilitation. This includes, but not limited to, successfully completing at least one semester or 0.5 full-time equivalent of university study (Bachelor level or higher), or one full-time year of study at Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Diploma level or above following the suspension or exclusion.
Application closing dates and deadlines to add UNSW to the preference list
Application Closing Dates
Term 1 or Semester 1 (UNSW Canberra): 30 November
Term 2: 30 April
Term 3: 31 July
The University will only accept late applications in exceptional circumstances where approval has been given by the Admissions Manager before the closing date.
Deadline to add UNSW to the preference list
Term 1 or Semester 1 (UNSW Canberra): 2 January
Term 2: 16 May
Term 3: 15 August
If UNSW is not included among your preferences by the above dates, your application may not be processed.
How to apply
Applicants must complete SCATS application form by the deadline mentioned in the previous section and submit the following documents:
Mandatory personal statement which explains, but not limited to, the reason why you apply for the special consideration and the circumstances that affected your secondary and/or tertiary educational performance AND
Any supporting documentation such as, but not limited to:
- Financial hardship
- Disability or long term illness/medical conditions
- Severe family illness/death
- Refugee status
- Attendance at a rural or disadvantaged high school
We will not accept additional documents after the application closing dates.
You may include multiple documents in a single application; however, please note that separate applications must be submitted if you wish to be considered for different terms. Only the latest submitted form and its accompanying supporting documentation will be assessed in each round of application review.
What supporting documentation do I include?
Applications must be supported by personal statement. Applications not accompanied by personal statement will not be processed.
For medical reasons, you should submit a letter/statement from your medical practitioner, which states:
The date/period your condition began and/or changed and
How your condition affected your ability to study.
For family/personal reasons, you should submit a statement from a doctor, counsellor or other relevant authority, which states:
The date/period your condition began and/or changed and
How your condition affected your ability to study.
Will I be notified regarding the outcome of my application?
We will endeavour to advise you the outcome of your application in writing. However, please note that due to short turnaround time, your application in UAC may already be updated before you receive communication from us.
